Things to do

There is so much to do in and around Knysna, from visiting markets and shops to leisurely strolls and picnics. We are happy to tell you more about the many activities available in our area and to assist with securing any bookings. Here are a few of our favourites:

  • The Featherbed Company offers excursions on the estuary on, amongst others, a paddle boat or a catamaran yacht. Their eco-experience takes visitors across the estuary and on a 4×4 drive before taking a walk through the reserve to their lagoon side restaurant for lunch.
  • Ocean Odyssey thrills with close encounter whale watching and marine eco-tours. Dare to sail through the Heads or simply enjoy a sundowner from their Outeniqua yacht. They also rent SUP boards and electric bicycles.
  • Knysna Hike & Bike offers fully guided, intimate walking or cycling tours. They have set tours but will happily tailor one to your needs. Stroll along beaches, walk through cool, misty forests or pedal towards a gourmet food and wine tasting experience.
  • Knysna Scootours presents a new way of experiencing the Knysna Forest. A scenic minibus ride delivers you into the heart of the forest from where you start your descent on a Monster Mountain Scooter. All trips are guided by professional, qualified guides, and the scooters are non-motorised for an eco-friendly experience.
  • Why not discover the Garden Route from above on a tandem paragliding or hangliding adventure with Wild2Fly
  • Walk amongst giants and enjoy exceptional elephant experiences at the Knysna Elephant Park.
  • Reunite with long lost family members at Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary.
  • Birds of Eden boasts the world’s largest dome, creating a true free flight bird sanctuary. Be amazed by the colours and songs of over 3 500 birds from over 220 species.
  • Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary is “where rescued big cats feel at home”. The sanctuary raises awareness of the plight of large predators in captivity. Visitors are privileged to see these kings of the jungle and their court up close.
  • Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary aims to entertain and educate visitors to respect, understand and conserve snakes and other reptiles.
  • Or take a daytrip to Oudtshoorn to visit the famous Cango Caves, Cango Wildlife Ranch, and the Cango Ostrich Farm .
